A dear friend of mine recently returned from a Washington D.C. mission trip. Part of this trip, they were to go into the inner city in groups of 2 or 3 and "connect" with some of the homeless inhabitants of the city, once they had built a bond, they were to invite them to dinner

Also, it's not the free market that has displaced them into homelessness, but rent control in the city that has. Rent control creates a shortage of housing, because people are more willing to buy up existing housing at lower prices in higher quantities than they normally would. Example, a married couple with no children would normally only need a two bedroom apartment, right? Well rent control artificially lowers the price below the normal demand, so that married couple will purchase a two bedroom apartment so they can have a guest bedroom or more storage space.
There is some sort of liberal myth that landlords are greedy and raise prices higher than normal, but if that were so, then they wouldn't be making any money, because pricing should always meet demand. If prices are too high, then people don't buy. They move. If the prices were allowed to rise based on the actual demand for housing (FREE MARKET), then in turn the landlords would provide more housing, because they would have higher incentive to increase the supply, and the prices would rise and fall until everyone's demand is met.
The intended benefactor of the free market is the consumer, not the producer. Producers must struggle to meet demands, and if they don't then they perish.
Liberals just... I don't know. Their ideas harm poor people more than any other societal factor.

PS I hope you allow this to post. But if you don't I'll know to give up, because you'll have censored truth.

I look at it economics and politics this way, there are two sides to everything-- just like there is another side to what you are saying. Now, my mistake was commenting on something I really don't know anything about and not having the knowledge to really elaborate on what I was saying. You however have knowledge on the subject, and sincerely mean this, thanks for posting it.
By the way, when do you work at the Grill? I wanna come and have you service me... err... you know what I meant. :)
