Helloo out thar!

It's been a while since my last post. Besides, I'm too used to typing in short stints of drabble on Twitter. I've noticed the quality of my typing has drifted downhill some. Just like any other muscle or skill set, if you don't use it, you lose it. I just got out of a nice steamy shower, and you know that usually gets my brain-meats pumping full of new life. So here goes.

Warning: what you're about to read is neither politically-correct (PC) nor is it written by anyone who is even remotely considered to be an expert on the topic. So, with that caveat in mind, let us go on.

I love how evolution does not obey the PC lines that have become part of the mainstream cultural meme in recent decades.

I consider myself a feminist. Although I don't advocate or support AT ALL the notion that women are better than men (I call it, alternatively, Amazonian masterhood, feminaziism, feminastiism, or fringe or ultra-feminism,) I believe very strongly that women can and should have every opportunity afforded to men in our society. Indeed, the very key to eliminating poverty, hunger and overpopulation in thrid-world nations is through the mechanism of empowerment, education and freedom of women.

However, from an evolutionary standpoint, men and women have quite a number of basic differences. I won't go into all of them, for I am not an expert in biology, anthropology, sociology or evolution. This is just my viewpoint from a limited, layperson context. I'll spell out my reasoning a bit later, in brief.

My thought, as I'm building up muscle mass faster than I ever have before due to my regular dosing of testosterone, is that men are equipped differently than women. And, no, I don't mean the OBVIOUS way between the thighs. Women's bodies are almost totally evolved to bear and nurture children. Men's bodies are almost totally evolved to protect and provide for his family.

Think about it. Why do women readily put on more body fat? No, it's not the male God's cruel joke on His favorite punching bag (after all, religion has nothing useful to say on how human beings developed, nor has it ever empowered women or supported them in any way.) Body fat is useful from a biological standpoint for many reasons: it provides insulation from the cold, it provides some protection for tender internal organs (hence the propensity to develop most body fat around the abdomen where no bones grow,) it provides a portable source of nutrition when food is scarce, etc. All of this serves to protect a woman's body so she can have greater chances to survive long enough to procreate. The main premise in being biologically successful, after all, is to be able to create the next generation, passing on genes and enabling the species to continue.

Men, however, tend to build muscle quite easily. Men are usually taller and stronger and are a bit less prone to disease. In our pre-civilization days, humankind had to hunt and forage for food. Men typically went out to hunt to bring in game whilst women tended the cookfires, the home, the children and occasionally gathered food from nearby.

Now, going back to my main premise, my perception of Political Correctness, as far as gender equality goes, is this: Women can and should be able to do everything and anything men can do. (I've heard arguments that women can even do the job better than men in some cases, but that's a bit beside the point here.) From an evolutionary standpoint, this is not strictly true. Yes, modern woman should be encouraged to do as many things as she can. But there will very likely always be some things she cannot do. As with men, since I think even the absurd idea of male pregnancy is premature and very likely dangerous if not outright stupid or unrealistic.

Yes, as with just about anything, there are exceptions. There are women who give men a real run for the money when it comes to typically "masculine" duties, traits, tasks, jobs and roles. While these women may be feminine and consider themselves female, they may have, whether natural or artificial, some kind of non-feminine aid working in their favor. This might be steroids or performance-enhancing drugs, the unintended side-effects of medications she may be taking, or an overabundance of naturally-occurring androgens in her body.

Evolution says that the woman's place is in the home whilst the men's place is out "making a killing." Evolution makes no inherent apologies about this. This is not to say that our society should revert to this kind of makeup. Evolution also says that it's perfectly acceptable and even in some cases a requirement for a man to have more than one female sexual partner. But hardly anyone is (currently, seriously) championing for polygamy to be instated as a lawful marriage agreement in this country (yet)! And when I said I "love" this doesn't mean that I endorse a return to 1950's sitcom-style home arrangements. Rather, I expressed this in a sort-of sarcastic way.

I do love, however, that evolution can explain why it's better for a woman to have voluptuous curves and extra weight. All too often women buy into the magazine model (pun intended) of womanhood: thin as a rod, small, leggy, huge breasts in a perfect teacup shape, narrowish hips, plump lips, delicate hands and feet, hairless bodies, and sexually available 24/7. Guess what, ladies? These magazines are often owned (or were founded by) misogynistic hetero males who have a raging hard-on for women who look exactly like men! In other words, this meme isn't truth. And don't worry, men get just as much flak from magazines, internet ads and porn videos about our body images, too. It's just that we're a bit less likely to pester our mates ad nauseum about losing that last 15 pounds and paying out the nose for a Brazilian wax (seriously, have they got nothing better to do in South America than to worry about the condition of the hair around your genitals?!)

While human bodies are far from perfect (after all, evolution is perpetually a work-in-progress, never a completed work,) we have a pretty good idea of how we got here and why things are as they are. So, please, a little less obsessing over what physical traits you don't have and a little more concern and work towards becoming and being as healthy as you can be. No one needs to be a dress size 2, unless you're six years old!
