No, I will never stop loving One Piece.

Title: Overboard
Pairing: Zoro x Nami
Fandom: One Piece
Rating: PG, maybe PG-13 for an "f" bomb
Prompt: # 27, overflow
Disclaimer: Oda is the one and only manga author to keep me consistently amused after all these years. I am not him.
Notes: Ficlet here. I'm pleased with this one, the most pleased I've been with a ZoroNami story I've written in a while. Enjoy.

Nami had never been thrown overboard before. So when an overflow of water onto the deck from an on coming storm turned into a full on wave, she wasn’t exactly happy about it.

"SOMEBODY FUCKING HELP ME!” She managed to scream out between mouth full after mouth full of sea water. She could see the figures running back and forth on deck, frantically. She could make out Sanji’s frightened cries vaguely over the sound of the waves.

Nami thrashed around. Of course she could swim, but the waves kept pulling her beneath the surface. It was all she could do to get a mouth full of air every time she happened to break through the water. Her head was starting to hurt from lack of air. Something flashed through her mind - What if she really didn’t make it out of here alive?

Now that was a new thought. Nami had been close to death many times before, her life was constantly on the line as a member of the Luffy pirates. But she had never truly thought what would happen if she didn’t make it. She would never finish her map of the world. She would never find One Piece. She would never grow old and have a family. She’d never fall in love.

The last thought was a lie, and she knew it. If she hadn’t been on the brink of death, she probably would have never admitted it to herself. Funny how things like that work.

Just when she thought she was going to pass out, she felt two arms wrap around her from behind, and yank her head above the water. Coughing and hacking, she could barely see through the thrashing water who had her, although she already knew.

At least three cries of “Nami!” reached her ears as she was pulled back on deck. She was pulled out of her rescuers arms by three sets of hands, and she even felt a kiss to her cheek. Only when they were done, was she able to turn around and glance at her rescuer.

“…Good to have you back…” a soaking wet Zoro commented as his eyes met her own. There were no other words, no other gestures, only looks. And then when the other had finally let them be, Nami took Zoro’s hand into her own. He didn’t push it away.

That was the night Nami was reminded life was too short to keep secrets.
