The highlight of my most recent trip was definitely Hakodate. I mean, seeing as I'd never been there before, it was a wonderful experience. There were two main things I went there hoping to see! #1 - the
Goryokaku and #2 -
the Hakodate City Museum of Northern Peoples I don't think you could miss the Goryokaku if you tried, ha ha. And it's definitely star-shaped, just as it's usually portrayed.

You can go up through the tower beside it and look down from there!
Hijikata Toshizo of the Shinsengumi, who carried on the fight all the way up through Aizu-Wakamatsu to Hakodate until he died during the Battle of Hakodate at the Goryokaku. (although in Golden Kamuy, he doesn't die there, but is imprisoned in Abashiri Prison...)
a manhole cover from Hakodate- emphasizing its closeness to the ocean (via the seagull) and Russian Orthodox Church (very close to the local Catholic church).
And there's a local fast-food restaurant
Lucky Pierrot that my mom was really looking forward to visiting. There was one very close to the Goryokaku, but it was packed to the gills with young people. Later we got to eat at one. I got their curry, which was sort of dry. She got a burger and didn't like that. So much for Lucky Pierrot! XD;
Now some photos from the Museum of Northern Peoples...!
