It's been an unexpectedly 'lie back and think of England'* kind of day (*this came to mind while I was out in this situation?? and I first I thought 'huh?' but then it seemed appropriate). :/ But that's over! Moving on--
...Or back as the case may be? Anyway, what I want to mention is the movie I watched last night (thanks Youtube XD;) - Regeneration
It's a WWI movie...from 1997, based on Pat Barker's book of the same name (and the first of a trilogy), which I am maybe going to have to read now?
Most centrally, this is the story of Siegfried Sassoon (played by James Wilby- whew, really good), sent to Craiglockhart War Hospital after publishing his anti-war declaration by friends who didn't want to see him courtmartialed, and Dr. W.H.R. Rivers, a doctor/therapist who is supposed to get him to recant his declaration (pretty much to say he only said that stuff because of shellshock).
but Johnny Lee Miller-- who I recognized instantly from playing Moriarty on the BBC's Sherlock-- also plays a fictional officer patient at Craiglockhart and there's a full story about him and other things.
Anyway, I really liked it (thank you kind person who put it up on Youtube)
.....and yes of course I have to tell you about the portrayal of Wilfred Owen, who is a sort of secondary character here, which can be summed up as- augh Wilfred why so adorable?!?
...and awkward, ha ha
(thanks
kind acquaintance on tumblr for the gif)
