To give you the best answer I can, we're all located on the planet of Fortuna as the hostages of a group of scientists. Being legitimate, if you want to blame anything particular on somebody, they're usually the source of all our problems.

I believe that they have a sort of machine that allows them to extract us from any time point in our lives. Once they've kidnapped, a chip is placed inside of us, and we are dropped at random into the cities of Spero, Dissimulo, or Spero. ((Stopping there so you can ask the appropriate questions.))

Yes, apparently there is a chip inside of us which hinders any supernatural abilities we might have. I have no abnormal abilities, so I have chosen to leave it in, but others have requested a removal, which can be done by a doctor if needed.

I believe escape is near to impossible of our own accord. The scientist are the deciders of our fate. What triggers it, I'll never know.
