As we ponder the link between sound, improvisation, and the formation of the structure and the causative link with a most interesting structure, life itself, one can't help but wonder: Did the universe create structure for a purpose? We run into murky waters when physicists start talking about purpose...Is it not part of being human to seek purpose? After all, we are the product of billions of years of structure formation. Music may likely be the best example of a human endeavor that, on one level, has physical and mathematical roots and, on another, has the ability to evoke such powerful emotions and sense of purpose...If our cosmic origins are seated in sound patterns, is it too far-fetched to think that music viscerally enables us to tap into those origins?

Stephon Alexander "The jazz of physics"
