I assumed yesterday was dollar movie night and was delighted to find the incredibles and house of flying daggers available for rent at The leather tongue. Unfortunately, it was not dollar movie night and i had to make a split-second emergency decision between the two. oh no. i went for the incredibles since I dont see my urge to witness the greatness of Howl's flying castle being resolved before Saturday at the earliest.
Rant on: Dispersal date for financial aid is the 14th, but the morons dont actually desposit it until friday OR monday and the bank handle's it in nightly processing, because they're morons and not responsive to their stakeholders...it would have actually been faster if I'd had the money mailed, since it would have been an in-town delivery, arrived on saturday at the latest and been available immediately at the bank.
I feel like I'm repeating myself here.
Rant off.
Incredibles had so much potential, and indeed some of the animation with elastigirl was great, but the characters reminded me of lame-o disney sterotypes. What is UP with the young girl? Why do they have to be so over the top on the pretending-to-be normal stuff, especially when it has no comic effect -- i.e. the girl-power mom really suddenly feels the need to be a housewife? Why are the black super heroes lines written or managed by some clueless screenwriter/executive and thus completely stereotypical. He says something along the lines that he doesn't need to know about other girl superheroes secret identities because he doesn't need any of that drama -- implying he just wants to have some fun. It isn't funny, and neither is the token-black-sidekick. Hello? 1985 is calling, they want their screenwriter back. It's sad that the story and comic effects had soooo much potential, but the execution was so poor and unimaginative. When I saw finding nemo and monsters inc, I felt like I watched a movie, when I watched the incredibles, I felt like I was watching an hour-long saturday morning cartoon special with -30 minutes of character development. Though I must say, the THX video optimizer tutorial worked wonders for my computer and I can now watch movies with proper contrast, tint, and brightness. Hooray.
In fact, I am now wondering if my bizarre enjoyment of reading The Implementation Game and public policy essays isn't somehow related to that space in my day that the incredibles was supposed to fill. Perhaps I should watch more bad movies before assignments to insure I get work done.
And on that note, it's time for 4 hours of F . U . N .
