Every Christmas, I go to the Lake. Only twice has my family not upheld this tradition; for three hours we sit in a car, wrapped presents under our feet, driving to Burnet to visit my Grandma and Grandpa at their 'Lake' (which is not actually theirs, nor is it a real lake; it's a man-made dam that leeches water from Lake Travis.) But hey, the jetskiing is good. And now, to show off my digital camera. Because you know, it's shiny and lovely and it actually works! Oh how it works.

Siblings absorbed in videogames. Animal Crossing. Nintendo. Something that couldn't wait until after presents were unwrapped.

Chelsea, symbolic of teenage angst. The tree! There are alot of trees by the lake.

More trees, because I like the contrast?

You see, its possible to actually walk on this one.

These people here are Aunt Linda and cousin Patrick. They tried to leave early in the morning on Christmas day so as to escape my camera. Woe unto them.

This is a marvelous plant we found in the wilderness (so to speak), which is only a five minute's walk away from the house! Not sure what it is, but wow, the size.

Dirt can be lovely.

If you squint, you can see the the Grandparents' house, sort of over the water.

We left on Cristmas Eve afternoon. Took a while to get up and running, wake up time is usually 12. Lazy, lazy, but Mom let us unwrap a present before we left, and Missy almost interrupted our worship of the new dvd player. She called on the phone just after, and I spent a good half hour chatting to her about Wraeththu and Matt. Lindsey complained -- Why doesn't she ever call for me? They almost left me at home, when the time came to leave. I swear, go to the bathroom for five minutes, and they're gone without you. Right when I had my key out to unlock the door (!1) Mom appeared from the other side of the door, also with her key ready. Figures. So anyway, we stayed at the Lake for two days. Aunt Sherye, Aunt Linda and the cousins were there.

Sherye brought her accordian, as well as two pies. There much discussion about those pies -- she'd tried a new kind of 'health conscious' shortening that did not turn out so well. And you know, the lack of sugar had something to with it too. Sherye is pretty health conscious. <.< She's the strange aunt in my life, the one who used to bring us art supplies, and keeps ginger candy in her purse, the one who teaches art classes, and plays in an amateur band. And is almost always late. <3 Linda, though, is the calm, reliable aunt, who crochets; she's an elementary school teacher, so I think these are ingrained habits. They are quite different, my mother's sisters.

Could say that Christmas is all about the family, but really, we all know it's about the gifts.

This year, no one pounced on the Christmas presents directly after dinner. No ';___; Can we open them yet?'
Probably because everyone was expecting clothes. Maybe there's more an element of surprise when you're younger.

And so I gathered up my booty -- clothes, girly paraphenelia, the camera, the fountain pens and food into the car. And it was good.

photos, real life apparently
