I'm not going to apologise for being angry, only for being slightly less articulate about it than normal.

Who the Fuck is this woman in the Avengers trailers?
Why the Fuck has she not had A SINGLE LINE YET, let alone a whole movie setting her up, like the rest of the gang?
and
Why the Fuck is there only one of her, while I can count at least 5 blokes ( Read more... )

headasplode, fetch me my pen of rage!!!, do not taunt happy fun alex, quietly breaking heart, postcards from the dcu, wtf?

Marvel "used" to be great for some degree of representation. Rogue was a much much better character before the movies/cartoon series got to her. Mystique was practically god in regards to plot devices - Need a mysterious parent? Mystique, Who tried to have me killed? - Mystique. Who was on the grassy knoll? Not Mystique because she was actually Jackie Onasis with the hypodermic syringe next to JFK. I'll agree that a lot of characters were introduced as girlfriends - but marvel was the publisher who broke the mould by making those relationships integral to the story. Wolverine/Mariko for example.

There were also the non convential female archetypes out there - Callisto stands as an obvious example. Also a good example of how the corporate brand chopped off every single bit of what was good about the character and then put her on the screen for five seconds for the fan boys to be happy with them.

Emma Frost was a much much much *MUCH* Better character about twelve years ago. Twenty years ago she would have neemed your head off from range while having decent 3 dimensional motivations. These days - if Fox Kids dont like it, it goes.

Marvel Uk also had a whole bunch of better character agents for women. Betsy Braddock, Megan, Her, the list goes on.

The thing is - your point stands. As i see it Marvels film based success is to blame for the comic strips dumbing down. The Cartoons couldnt manage it. But Hollywood can. Dc's licences are not succesful enough so they retain creative freedoms not allowed to the mainstream.

Kind of shows you which medium is actually the more sexist in my opinion.
