I just got an e-mail back from my placement officer saying that he "received a positive response from a Latin American post," which leaves in late August. I was quite unaware that he had even sent out a request for a position in Latin America, but this is seriously good news nonetheless. He said that if he hasn't heard back about the Africa position within a week or so, we will just move forward with this one in L.A.
All this seems just about perfect to me, except that I'm not sure how I would make the decision between Africa and Latin America. Maybe I should just give up and go south! I've obviously spent the last two years preparing myself for it, and it would be a great way to solidify my Spanish skills.

Either way, the two possible departure times are late August for Latin America and late September for Africa.
Time for some serious mulling it over. :)
