So Broward county, The election is over, and at this point we can kinda figure out who is elected and what amendments went through....Here are the results.
Governer: Charlie Crist (REP)
This is really not a big shock, he spent millions on his campaign, he was everywhere, and he was kinda pretty. Although Broward and Miami-Dade clearly voted for the other guy, it wasn't by a large enough margin to cover the rest of Florida which is rather....well, country.
US Senate: Bill Nelson (DEM)
No shock here either, Katherine Harris looked like an evil lier during the debates.
Congress: Kendrick Meek (DEM), Frank J. Gonzalez (DEM), Ron Klein (DEM)
Democrats swept all 3 seats in Congress, but with one of the guys running against no one, and Ron Klein running against Clay Shaw who keeps aligning himself with Bush on the war, no big surprises here.
Other big notes, for some reason Broward county overwhelmingly voted to out the Florida Secretary of Agriculture Charles H. Bronson (REP), even though by all accounts he is the been doing a spectacular job. Luckily the rest of the state that is actually efected by the department of agriculture voted to keep him in office. Although I love living in the 2nd gayest county in the country. Democrats sometimes vote along party lines, without even looking at the canidate. Don't vote if you have no idea what you are voting for.
Which brings me right to some stupid waste of money:
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT NO. 4: PROTECT PEOPLE, ESP. YOUTH, FROM ADDICTION, DISEASE, AND OTHER HEALTH HAZARDS OF USING TOBACCO
Approved by 68.53% of the county
The way this reads it sounds good right, anti-smoking for kids...and who doesn't want to save the children. In reality 69% of Broward county residents just decided to spend 57 million dollars of tobacco settlement money, THAT WE ALREADY WERE GOING TO RECIEVE on a antismoking 'D.A.R.E. like' program on kids. Have you ever seen a little kid that doesn't think that smoking is "icky, and gross", or a teenager that listens to a damn thing that thier teachers say. This is 57 million dollars that could have gone into local hospitals, that will now go into a loal TRUTH-like campaign. Way to save the kids guys. Idiots!
We also over whelmingly voted to spend more, and have less taxes. I thought this was supposed to be a Democratic county? ;)
Raised the level of exemtions from Ad Volemn tax for both seniors, and veterns. Which I kinda get behind.
We also voted, to not raise the sales tax a penny, to be used as for transportation. Thank god, that was a horribly structured plan that sounded good, but wasn't.
All in all, a usual voting day, I leave feeling pissed and irritated.
