Day 5 - Anime character you feel you are most like (or wish you were)
It really depends on my mood and what kind of day I'm having. I know it's narcissistic, but part of the reason why I love my favorite characters, is because I can sympathize with them on some level. Such as, maybe they're going through something similar to something I once experienced, or they're fighting for an ideal that I support. There's plenty of characters that remind me of myself, on some level, and it was really hard to choose for tonight's topic. However, with the way things have been going, lately...
Out of all the characters I could've chosen, I decided to go with Ariabert Tytania (AKA: Lord Tea Fetish). I probably should have gone with someone like YURI MOTHERFUCKING PETROV, due my issues over my alcoholic father, but I tend to see myself more like Aria. For one, there's the infamous tea fetish. I'm not quite as much of a tea fanatic, like he is, but I still love the stuff. Second, my confidence level is easily shaken, giving me a huge desire to prove my worth. Then, I have a younger sister, who finds any opportunity to discredit me; much like Idris does to Aria. I prefer to keep to myself, but I do have a few people whom I can easily open up to.
More than anything, though, I started majorly sympathizing with Aria, during the second episode. He pretty much got ganged up on, by the other dukes, and it reminded me a lot of myself, when I was in middle school. I was one of those who got picked on all the time, and I couldn't really do anything to properly defend myself. In fact, I got to experience what happened with him, on a daily basis, during the second semester of 7th grade. And when I finally snapped and got the teacher's attention, all he told me was to control my anger. So, it struck a major chord, when everyone was kicking him, when he was already down.
And my family situation isn't really helping matters, either. It's bad enough that I have this huge inferiority complex, but having your sister rub it all in makes it a lot worse. I'm not even going to pretend that I'm not jealous of how successful she's been. However, that's really not the main issue, here. I keep saying that she's the Idris to my Ariabert, and there's actually a lot of truth to that statement. Every time she's around, she has to keep reminding me of how much I fail at life. She and Dad both have a bad habit of acting condescending toward other people, and to someone like me, their remarks hurt a lot. I know I should try proving my worth, for myself, but honestly, I want to prove my worth just to show them up. I've been trying as hard as I can, but I know they don't think I'm trying hard enough. It just makes me want to show them my true worth, more than ever.
However, I have to keep remembering that there's still hope for me. With Jouslain's help, Aria managed to regain his honor, and I know I'll manage to do the same. It's a little hard, right now, though, since I don't have a Jouslain of my own to support me. So, I have to do everything on my own. Who knows? Maybe I'll find him, someday, and we can conquer the universe together. XD
