A bit of projection on Ron's part regarding money, perhaps? As for friends... *snicker*. Of course Draco wouldn't want to be friends with Harry.

Perhaps. He hates Malfoy and doesn't think clearly wrt him. And he spends so much time hating the fact that he doesn't have any money that he doesn't understand that other people might not even consider that. But I think Ron means well, and wants to protect Harry. He just doesn't get that Harry doesn't need protection from Draco.

Friends - pfft!
