"What?!" Dean exclaimed.

"Oh ... shit ... sorry. Um ... that came out all wrong," Ginny stammered.

"I'll say," Dean said warily. "Today at lunch you were in tears about Harry, and now, five hours later, you're suggesting we sleep together?"

"Right. Like I said, it came out all wrong. That's not exactly what I meant."

"You didn't mean that you want to sleep with me?" he asked.

"No. Well, yes. Well ... look, could we go somewhere and talk?"

"Talk?"

"Yes, talk. But privately."

"Why don't we take a walk, then?"

"So what did the she-weasel have to say?" Draco asked, barely disguising his irritation.

"Goodbye," Harry replied simply.

"Goodbye?"

"Yeah. She saw us today at lunch, and I guess it finally hit her. We really are together."

"We've been together for months, Harry. You'd think she'd have figured it out, oh, maybe when you told her!"

"I know that, Draco, but she doesn't trust you."

"Really? I hadn't noticed."

"You don't trust her either."

"No shit! She'd try anything to get you back."

"I don't think so. Not any more."

"Don't tell me you believe her now. What could she possibly have said to make you drop your guard?" Inwardly, he resolved to never let his down where the weaselette was concerned.

"She saw how you looked at me, and she realizes that you love me, that you're not out to hurt me."

"She said that?"

"Yeah, she did. Then she asked if I was happy, and when I told her I was, she said she was happy for me."

"And you believe her?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Well, I still don't trust her, and I'll be watching for any tricks she might play."

"Don't worry about anything Ginny might pull." Harry pulled Draco into a hug and kissed him gently. "Now that I have you, I'll never let you go."

~*~*~

Ginny and Dean sat down by the lake where they could speak privately. "Okay, so what did you want to talk about?" Dean asked.

"Do you remember when we were going out together?"

"Of course."

"And we used to take walks all the time, and just ... talk?"

"Yes."

"Me too. I was remembering that today."

"Is there a point to all this, Ginny?"

"All afternoon, I was thinking about Harry, and I realized something."

Dean had stiffened at the mention of Harry's name. "What?" he bristled.

"I realized that I don't really know him at all."

"What are you talking about? You've known him since you were ten years old, and he practically lived at your house in the summers."

"Yeah, but he was always there as Ron's friend. I was just the little sister, tagging along sometimes, pestering other times, and being ignored most of the time. I pretty much just saw Harry as I wanted to. You know, as I always had seen him, even before I met him."

"As the famous Harry Potter?" Dean asked.

"Exactly." Ginny had come to that realization after seeing the truth in Harry's expression at lunch. "When I saw him with Draco today, I realized that we'd never had moments like that. Whenever we were alone together, we were studying or strategizing about Quidditch or ... I don't know. I started to think about conversations we'd had, and I realized that neither one of us really took the time to find anything out about each other. I realized that the person I thought I was in love with didn't exist ... doesn't exist."

"Ginny, I think you're taking this a bit far," Dean said sceptically.

"No, not really. I spoke with Harry a little while ago, and I asked him what attracted him to me. He couldn't answer."

"He didn't answer you?"

"Oh, he answered, but it wasn't anything real. He said I was beautiful, but figured it had to be more than that. Then he said something about my personality, blah blah blah. He didn't say a single thing to make me think he knew me any better than anyone else in Gryffindor. And you know what?"

"What?"

"I don't think I could have answered the question any better myself about him."

"Okay, so you had an epiphany. What's that got to do with sleeping with me?"

"It was strange, but Harry mentioned you as he was leaving. I thought back to our relationship, and I realized that I know much more about you than I ever knew about Harry, and I'd wager you know more about me than he does."

"And?"

"And do you remember that day when we went walking in the rain?"

Dean closed his eyes and took a long breath before answering, as though the memory were too painful. "Yes."

"You asked me to sleep with you that night. Just sleep. Nothing more. Because you just wanted to be close to me, so you could watch me, feel me there, and wake up with me next to you."

He looked out at the lake, and quietly said, "Yes."

"I'm not saying we forget everything that's happened, or that we pick up right where we left of or anything, but ... do you still want that?"

Turning back to Ginny, he said, barely above a whisper, "Yes."

"Then what do you say? Can we go to bed now?"

His smile spoke volumes. "Sure."
