Tales from the Book, Part CLXXXII

Dec 17, 2008 21:15

I was busy watching The Lord of the Rings on Monday and forgot to post. Tuesday I was watching The Two Towers and forgot to post. (Initially I was going to take a shot every time there was subtext between Frodo and Sam, but then remembered I had to work today. I did chant 'Tear down the wall!' during the battle of Helmsdeep, though.)

Speaking of, any fans coming to my town to see Australian Pink Floyd perform The Wall in concert next year?

Agent: Is your shipment ready for pickup?
Caller: No.
Agent: When will it be ready?
Caller: It's ready now.

Multiple callers:
So, so many people think that address = postal code.

Agent: Ok, so that's going Ground...
Caller: No, it's going Overnight Standard.
Agent: We don't have Overnight Standard.
Caller: Oh. Expedited Standard.
Agent: *schedules Expedited*

"Is that the letter eight or the number eight?"

Multiple callers:
Agent: OK, I'll need the origin postal code, destination postal code, and the weight and dimensions of the box, please, to get a rate.
Caller: Uhhh...ummm...uhhh...its going to...*city*?
Agent: All right, what's the postal code in *city*?
Caller: I don't know. *insert this answer as the response to all other questions, ending in 'Can't you just give me a rate'?
Am I the only one who thinks you shouldn't need to know the ins and outs of courier services to understand that addresses are important things to know when you want to have something delivered?

Do not have your child call the courier. When they have to get answers from you, the whole thing takes twice as long. Three times if you have no idea how to schedule a pickup either. This isn't the kids' fault, it's the parents for not preparing them. Independence might be a wonderful thing (though I question how many modern parents actually want that for their kids) but being tossed headfirst into something with no info isn't.
