Property tax bill came today. Too stressed for witticisms.
Caller's description of the loss of his security suite:
"Everything fell out last night."
I think what he'd actually done was run a System Restore. Best thing Microsoft did with Vista was make that harder to find.
Tech:In Control Panel, do you see Security Center?
Caller:No, but I have it in Control Panel.
Multiple callers:
"I had to reboot my computer and now I have to reinstall everything!"
Reformat =/= reboot. If rebooting removes everything on your hard drive, you have bigger problems.
"Windows 6." No.
Frustration note, specific it looks, not general:
*ISP* is not responsible for the access numbers you choose being local or long distance. Being in law enforcement doesn't change that. No, threatening a class action lawsuit (do you even know enough people to build one, or have the money to advertise?) doesn't either. You won't even get that far, because you signed the terms of service which is a legal contract whether you read it, or like it, or not. Puffing up and announcing you won't pay your phone company the thousands of dollars you owe them for two months of long distance charges (WTH? do you not read your bills?) is a good way to get a lawsuit launched against you, or to get sent to a collection agency. Enjoy. No one from the executive office is going to call you either. Our ass is already covered. Read what you agree to, and pay attention to your bills.
To my coworkers:
Please do not announce in the site support chat that "*tool* just went down on me". I will snort cold coffee, and it hurts.
Tech:Close *ISP* and you should see a message about...
Caller:Close *ISP*?
Tech:Yes.
Caller:And then what?
Tech:You should get a message a-
Caller:Well I don't. I just have *ISP*.
"Should I reinstall Minesweeper to protect my computer?"
