I finally made the leap and bought a digital camera today. It's a Canon PowerShot S410. 4 megapixels, 3X zoom, the works. I also ordered a 512MB card for it and the camera comes with a free leather case. Got a great deal on it too! Gotta love Amazon. This is for my trip to California next month so I can take some decent pictures at the E3 ( Read more... )

I like it very much, but not as much as my father's camera which is considerably higher end. It's perfect for internet pics and decent small pics, but not enough megapixels for good larger prints. Also, the zoom isn't as strong, which is only an issue if you get used to a camera with a more powerful zoom!

And, of course, it's a stylish little thing, although heavy because of the metal case. On the other hand, metal cases are a good thing in something that can be dropped!

Oh, get an extra battery. You'll want it.

I mainly wanted something small to carry about the Staples Center next month to snap pics with and after that it's just nice to have a camera. I'm not looking to shoot the next magazine cover, just something to capture little moments. And if Florida is bashed by hurricanes it'd be good to have, too.

How is the battery life? I'm also going to get a Flash thumbdrive to use the 512 MB chip in.

I find that I generally need 2 for a day of pictures, even if I turn off the view screen when I'm not using it, and even if only half are flash. It's still preferable to AA batteries, though, as it lasts much longer. I find I run out of battery power before I run out of memory.
