What I Saw When I Opened My Eyes

Last night, I dreamed...

I was being hunted by the Terminator (old school, T-800, Arnie-style). I had to go into hiding. I stopped by my parents' house, where I apparently still had a bunch of my stuff. As fast as I could, I started throwing things into a backpack - things I would need while on the run. A couple changes of clothes: socks, ( Read more... )

I've found that some of my more mundane memories of day-to-day highschool life have been supplanted by the frequent dreams that for some reason I have to go back to high school and take more classes because I didn't finish them somehow.. they normally always end lucidly with me realizing that I wouldn't have gotten to Tech without wrapping up HS in some way.

Though some may argue there's something passe about liking Fight Club, the anti-materialism/consumerism message is definitely something the world still needs (whether or not that was Palahniuk's intention or just creating a compelling character).

Heh. If it's become passe, then that's perfect. I only finally watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. I'm all about being behind the pop culture curve. :)

Oddly enough, I took away something more than anti-materialism. Which is good, because I'm pretty damn materialist, or at least anti-anti-materialist. I think (for me, anyway) Fight Club isn't about what's not important, like furniture and pants. It's about what is important.

Ikea isn't the enemy. The enemy is unwitting complacency. Ikea just makes a good foil.

However valid the underlying message, I'm not sure identifying with Tyler Durden is exactly healthy... but I guess as long as you don't start fighting yourself in parking lots, or creating a private guerilla army, or anything... :)

Some of my best friends have been imaginary. Or at least so I now believe.

... and what's wrong with creating a private guerrilla army? What's the use of being a charismatic cult leader if you can't arm your followers?

Some of your friends are imaginary...

Charismatic cult leader? Is this the same cult as V, or a different one?

So which T-shirt did you end up picking?

Terminator can see in the dark, so camouflage is no good. You'll be running around being chased without looking where you are going, so maybe you want something that's bright and easy to see so that other folks don't hit you when you are running across the street?
