Parking! "Sweet!" (as the kids used to say)

I parked my car tonight! This is tremendously exciting in light of the parking drama that arose last week.

My property management company pays for my parking, and it's all set up at the underground lot across the street. At least, it was. I got home from Wichita to find that "overnight parking" was now being enforced to mean "can only park there between 4:30 pm and 8 am on weekdays".

"What?!!!!!?" quoth I upon trying to leave the garage at 10 am for an appointment on my first Monday back.

"Gotta be out by 8," said the parking attendant. "Otherwise we charge you the $1.50 per 20 minutes that's on the sign."

"But, what about when I go on vacation?"

"That's kind of the point."

Oh. Well that's lovely.

So I went to talk to my property management people:

"What're we doing about the totally not on parking situation," I asked.

"Try to be out of the garage by 8," offered the management.

"Wrong answer," I said, but in a nicer, less-confrontational way.

"Well, we're talking to the people next door, but they want money so it may take a while."

"Okay," I tried to be calm and perky and conciliatory all at once. "So, what're we doing in the mean time?"

"What's this 'we', kemosabe?" said the management, but without the cool Lone Ranger reference.

"Ummm . . . like, you guys deal with my parking. So, like, what're we doing?"

"I don't know," said the getting-steadily-more-annoyed management. "What do you think we should be doing?"

Honestly, I thought they should pay for my parking across the way or get week-long tickets to the place next door or to the hotel right behind us, just until they got things sorted out. But I let it go. Then they swore they'd get back to me the next day.

A few days later, there were notices up saying, "We've almost negotiated a good contract with the hotel next door and are in the process of getting parking stickers for your cars. We'll let you know when they come in."

Today, I came home from lunch to a notice on my door. I could exchange my old parking card for a new sticker for the place next door. The new contract is 24/7 parking, unlimited in-and-out, required to park on the top two levels, and right next door. A zillion times more convenient.

The only downside is that we're prohibited from parking for the 3 days of the Grand Prix (in April). Maybe I'll drive to Vegas that weekend like we did this year. **grin**

Anyway, the upshot is: I have a new parking sticker and parked in a new garage tonight! Yay!

After parking outdoors for so many days, I need to wash my car. Anyone know a good, cheap place for that in L.B.?
