I bought a car yesterday, although it turned out quite differently than I was expecting. The honda wagon I was going to look at didn't answer my phone call and the "other" number turned out to be the sister in law, who told me that the wagon windshield was shattered, but would i be interested in a camry? i was able to talk her down in price to $1700 after getting their local mechanic to take a look and tell me that everything would cost $500 in repairs. it's got a sweet sound system too, a pioneer cd thingamajig with an auxiliary input.
it just needs fluids changed, a possible oil leak fixed, new brake pads, and at some point a timing belt.
it's a 1992 so it's got some cosmetic things wrong with it, but pretty low mileage and it drives smooth as butter.
now i need to talk to my camp manager and/or friends about taking my yurt and my bike for me, camry's are NOT spacious cars.
spent last night babysitting my nephew--i taught him to how to paint with watercolors.
spent today with my brother and an old family friend passing through town, met his girlfriend. they're a bit square but very nice.....
it's 3 weeks until i leave for burning man, and now i just have the final push to get everything totally ready. starting with renewing my expired driver's license and registering the car. the next few weeks are pretty packed, and i'm pretty fucking excited.
next weekend: get hair supplies with mom, drive up to the landowner's to deliver supplies and work a couple hours. drive the rest of the way to laytonville for gaia fest, volunteer with wastebusters. see india arie and idan raichel perform, along with a ton of other lovely musicians and speakers.
following weekend: take the GRE, go to outside lands and see muse and the black keys and ETC. for free, finish the yurt with my mom.
following weekend: prepare supplies and pack like a whirlwind, drive into the dramatic desert, build hexayurt and let the whirlwind take over.
