Well, in a 'making a trilogy' way, not by adding in superfulous special effects... or Senate meetings
Wild Cards has taken on a slightly different turn and after a long discussion, it will end at roughly Chapter 31 (with Ch 31 being an epilogue). I inadvertently did the typical set up of a novel - intro, conflict, climax, anti-climax, etc.... and it went quickly. And then when I looked beyond thirty chapters, (more specifically, at the coming climax), I realized that it would drag further out. There is so much to wrap up and most especially, I need to get the William kidnapping explained.
Wrote out all the notes and my god.... it was hard to realize just how much still needed to happen.
So...
Third story in the series will likely be called something like EndGames. My beta and I had a discussion about the direction and tone of the third story. I personally want to get back to the slightly lighter tone of Tea and Chess but with the depth and maturity of Wild Cards... but definitely with a more final feeling. Dark adult themes are fine but they do start to wear a little bit on me, not to mention the poor characters ;). Thankfully, the third story just seems like it might be a little lighter on some sides.
Interestingly, I had a reader email regarding how dark this story had become and how they weren't sure they liked it getting this dark. (especially with the last chapter)
But unfortunately, as I let the story tell itself, to suddenly turn it into sunshine and rainbows would be utterly cheating. It is why I don't worry about killing characters off or having characters turn out to have darker motives; it is a bit more realistic, as in no battle does everyone survive. It has been interesting to try it out
Wild Cards is almost done after taking so much longer than I expected to write; but it has been fun to write :-D
