Holy crap! Last week in the states and here I am vegging and watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. What am I thinking?!...Well, I guess the show is pretty amazing, and I won't get Netflix in Korea so it does kinda make sense. But on the other hand I need to pack, buy a few more things and get my act together for my first day of teaching.
I went to a party last night, had a blast, but there were two teachers there who were all kinds of nice and helpful. Too bad I was a little too inebriated to remember all the good advice they gave me. I do remember them telling me to enforce discipline by making my class a mini society though, I thought that was pretty brilliant. They both used this and I guess it worked wonders. Give the kids 'money' (fake money of course) for doing things right, and fine them for misbehaving. Then one a week or month bring something in and auction it off, or allow them to buy one free missed homework or something. Not only does that sound fun for the kids, that sounds great to me too! I played games like that all the time when I was a kid, I'd love to start something like that in my classroom. I don't know how effective it'll be in an esl classroom though. Whatever, you won't know until you try right? And elementary is the students are the perfect age for me, I still act like I'm in grade school as it is. ;)
Well hopefully I'll see some of you before I depart, next time I update I'll most likely be in Korea, or on my way to the airport. So until then, I bid you farewell. Wish me luck!
