Bats on Bridges

After writing five long due letters on a train from Sacramento to San Jose during the time of sunset, it has come to my attention that it is entirely impossible not to get slightly sappy or nostalgic with California’s beautiful landscape rolling by. Why don’t I do all of my writing on the train? I feel much more eloquent. Which I’m probably not, but I’m too at peace to care. I got my boyfriend to play hooky today, after I was forced into the situation myself. It was great. Now riding the train afterward and finishing up my letters from Egypt I’m feeling very content. Until an ugly fact nudges its way into my mind. The war. It reminds me of the lovely Syrian gentleman who I met just three days earlier on my way to Sacramento. How he and his coworker sat besides me and offered me some sparkling cider and roasted nuts; and how we talked of impressive movies and the wonders of his job as an engineer, until inevitably the war and politics made its way into the conversation. I told him about my plans for Turkey and he told me about his first days in America, his very funny first experience at a Catholic American University dealing with pot and the fear of deportation. Until we recalled our lost civil liberties. We returned to his job as an engineer and the interesting side jobs it entails, how a young man from his office had to convince him of bats importance, and how he redirected fish, until we had to disembark. I hope I run into him again. I could learn a lot from him. I’ve written enough for now, time to read for class.

So yea. That was all babble. This weekend was pretty awesome. Excluding the one single day it decided to rain, which happened to be the day that Steven and I planned a trip to Folsom lake. Figures. Sunday was cool though, got to see Bahareh in her Iranian dance show. I really like that form of dancing. The hand movements are really elegant. And Bahareh did a great job, WOOOOO BAHAREH! (I couldn't cheer you afterwards, so I figured I'd make up for it here). Besides that my train decided to be 3 hours late, which would have caused me to miss my most important class of the day so I decided to take an extended weekend and cut class with Steven. That was fun =B.

Oh a completely unrelated note; I miss people.

thought train, dance, people, weekend
