Hasn't the DEB been passed into law?

Yes it has, though it's been acknowledged by MPs that it will need some tweaking, since it was debated so hurriedly. And, of course, it would be perfectly possible for a future government to repeal the law.

My reply from my MP would appear to be pretty similar, but it just made me so angry at how little he appeared to understand the issues that all Icould do in response was sit on it and fart thunderously.

Oh, and obviously start really trying to convince all my liberal friends to vote Lib Dem rather than Labour.

why oh why oh why aren't you running for a political position? snesgirl April 15 2010, 10:52:51 UTC
Seriously.

why?

Your eloquence, and calm delivery of contextual information makes me feel speechless.

I'd vote for you in a heartbeat if I were in your constituency :D

Well, mostly because power corrupts, and I don't want to be a part of that corruption.

If I felt there were an opportunity to make real change, in a party that I could trust not to have crazy and/or inconsistent policies and yet still pay me a wage, I'd think about it.

Thank you, though. :)

Standing as an MP is similarly, next to impossible in the current environment, unless you want to 'play party'. You have to be come a part of the system.

Maybe that works for you, maybe not. Personally I don't like the idea of party line being able to influence MP voting more than the constituents do. But that's the way it is now.
