A Book Rave.

I've just finished a particularly awesome chapter in a book that my girlfriend now insists on calling my 'mistress' (I do keep it by the bed I suppose!) which is kinda a strange thing...particularly considering the nature of the book. But you know how sometimes you just feel completely torn between wanting to read to the end and being terrified of when the pages run out?

The book I'm talking about is Maria McCann's 'As Meat Loves Salt' and it's set early in the English civil war (if you know how bloody that one was, you can see what's coming!) . The narration of Jacob Cullen - homicide and fugitive - and an account of his obsession with Christopher Ferris (yes that kinda obsession!). Filled with accurate historical detail and politics (but shouldn't put off those not inclined to heavy reading) this seriously heart-stopping read follows Jacob from a servant on a royalist estate, to war, to the powder keg of 1640's London and on into the New World. A book reviewed as '...An Electrifying erotic thriller, rich in secrets and surprises.' this novel has me completely captivated. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Not since Kathleen Eagle's 'Fire and Rain' (also a MUST read!) have I been so taken by a book - and considering the sheer number I get through that's saying something!

Has anyone else read this book? (Please no spoilers - or I WILL cry!)
Or does anyone have a recommendation for when I am forced to finnish this one...*sob*cos one day I'll have to.
