Comedy is supposed to be funny, right?
Today marks the fourth time I've ever been to a comedy club (namely, Yuk Yuk's), and more and more, I find myself bored. It's not that I don't get the jokes, but the jokes have become trite. I'll be straightforward: All the comedians are these guys who like to talk about how they and their ladies interact with each other in bed. They'll make comments about how they use their penis to its full potential, and how in one way or another their respective lady isn't giving them the pleasure that they seek.
...I've had enough. Shut the fuck up.
Congratulations, you have a penis and apparently, it has needs! So does it mean that it deserves a gold star? You like sex! And that's the only thing you can talk about! That, or drugs. Or more sex. It gets old really, really fast. Should I give you a pat on the back because you can't live without your vices? There, there. Now go away.
What bothers me even more is that all these men talk about women in such a demeaning manner, always like an object. They always address female audience members, making some reference to these ladies' ability of getting men to sleep with them. It's not funny, nor is it cute. Personally, this behaviour is one of the reasons why I don't want to date. If all men are like this, then I rather be stranded on a island by myself. Thankfully, I know that decent people still exist.
We need some female comedians to counter this bullshit. Or to talk about something other than, uh, the fact that we can reproduce. We're smarter than that, and we need to have someone represent us in a way that we wouldn't feel ashamed of.
