Attack of the itchy mosquitoes!

Jun 18, 2006 20:56

In the past 24 hours, I've been attacked by mosquitoes ONLY on my right side - bites on my right foot, leg and hand - and NONE on my left! What the hell is wrong with me? Is my right side juicier or something? Or do they know that my dominant side is my left so they go for the right?

Aaaaaaaaack!

Is that applied before or after the bites?

Before, it's a pretty heavy duty bug repellant. Try calamite lotion to put on bites you already have.

Tell me a bit more information about this lotion you speak of. Is it easy to find? I've never heard of it.

One side is sweeter than the other! :D

You're lucky you don't have bites that balloon up. I got a bite on my knee two weeks back and it looked like I had a second knee cap!!!

It was hideously disgusting.

So..DEET it up!

:D

Eeek, that must have been frustrated?

And by the way, notice how the comments are seemingly becoming an ad campaign for Deet? They should be proud.

As far as deet goes, deet is the active repelling ingrdiant in bug sprays, that you apply before hand. Most 'family/kid friendly' bug sprays have about 15% to 20% deet in them. However, stuff like deep woods off (my personal favorite) has up to 28% deet.
You really can't use much more then that since deet has a nasty side effect of cancer. However, only partially proven and requires mega deet percentage and constant application year long. deep woods off for the mosquito season at 28% and you will be fine.

true story: bad bug year at camp once, and I was getting freaked out by the deer flies, so the counsellors gave me this bug spray that was 50% deet. You're not allowed to use that much of it, so we put a bit on the back of my neck and some on my wrists. This protected me, the two other people in my canoe and the canoe next to us (about 6 feet away).

I came back from upper laurentians (120 miles NW of Montreal) a week ago and there was like 5 times the mosquitoes on residential ground and in the forest add big flies that tear patches of skin, we call them in french "douche à chevreuil" grossly translated to deer flies.

Oh man. Is Montreal notorious for mosquitoes or something? You see, what I don't understand is that when I was attacked it was night time, so I thought I would be less susceptible to being attacked. Of course, that wasn't the case.

Tear patches of skin? This sounds pretty severe!

No joke, it's a huge fly like 1/2" long and leave 1/8" diameter tear + like 2" redness around it ! We wear screens to keep it off us.
