Every year I anticipate going to my church's flea market, especially the night before because the selection of items is great. My favourite section of the market is the book room because... it's books, and I thirst for any type of knowledge, insight and way to expand my imagination. With that said, I picked up the following goodies:
- 2,000 Designs, Forms and Ornaments
Essentially, it's a collection of ornaments, designs and decorations all over the world from the medieval times to 1947, the year the book was published. I have a penchant for older European styles because of the intricate fine details. Scratch that thought, I have a penchant for anything retro.
- Sixties Design by Phillipe Garner
Lots of beautiful photos of artifacts with essays that contextualize the works and ideas of the time. Speaking of which, it might be useful to my huge essay for the course, Image and Influence: Graphics of the 20th Century.
- A Journey into Perception: Illusions by Patricia Ann Rainey
I love optical illusions. I love having my perceptions and my mind challenged. Enough said.
- Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
I remember wanting to read this many years ago. Then again, there are
many books that I own that I haven't gotten around to even starting! And if you haven't heard me mention this already in some way, shape or form, I'm heading down to
The Word on the Street festival this Sunday. Go figure!
Cost of books? $1.50.
A better educated mind? Priceless.
