I have now been back from Japan six days. Saw the Return of the King my first night back, and just came back from seeing Peter Pan with Charmaine today.
Hmmm...much to say. I came back from Japan with a sore back and a head full of Japanese phrases, which I ended up blurting out at random intervals. By now I've switched my thinking back into English, but I really miss Japan. I don't remember ever having to say goodbye to that many people in my life.
My classmates gave me a bouquet and a goodbye note from each of them separately. Everyone was just really wonderful. I've also made a new friend in a teacher at the school named Sawako Goto. If she ever comes to Australia like she says she wants to, just about everyone who has bothered to read this journal is going to meet her.
I was really sad when I had to say goodbye to the third years though. Somehow I don't think I'm going to see any of them again. Hopefully I'll meet Ayaka again someday, but Megumi, Mai, Hitomi, Tomomi, Saki, even Kenji, I'll probably never see again...
They take their university entrance exams today.
I want to email them and find out how they went. Their entire year of studying has been leading up to this one day, so they must really be taking some time to breathe now.
Chihiro's been emailing me, s that's all good. I miss her and my Japanese family. Still, they promised to come to Australia and visit. Hopefully next year after Chihiro finishes her entrance exams. Assuming she passes of course. I think she will.
On a completely different subject, I have movie verdicts to issue. ROTK was quite good, although I was wishing we had seen more of Eowyn. I liked her part better in the book, especially when she stood up to the Nazgul. Somehow it seemed more dramatic when I read it. I was also quite happy for her when she finally found herself some solace in Faramir, and that part was left out of the movie too. Still, we do get a shot of them together near the end,and they look good together.
I was also a little confused with Aragorn's entrance into the battlefield with all the ghost people. Once again it seemed somewhat anti-climatic, and since I couldn't remember quite what happened in the book, I was also somewhat confused.
Favourite parts would include Legolas and Gimli; just those two in general. And of course, I liked Gollum's happy dance. Somehow I think that dance is bound to become famous.
Possibly the best part in the movie though was Pippin's song.
Now onto Peter Pan.
I loved the choice in actors, even the Lucious Malfoy guy played his part brilliantly. Usually Wendy really irritates me in Peter Pan stories, (the disney cartoon, I have yet to read the book) but in this movie I really liked her. She and Peter Pan worked extrememly well in my opinion.
Tiger Lilly getting sweet on John really surprised me. I guess Wendy wasn't the only one leaving behind a significant other. Ending was kind of sad, as it always is with Peter Pan, but the movie was otherwise completely brilliant. ......okay, maybe one exception. When Wendy kissed Peter....and he turned pink. Somehow that scene just seemed out of place.
Hmmm....rant has probably gone on long enough. I should probably start customsing this thing. Dad's birthday tomorrow. Goodnight all.
To those who understand any Japanese,
