Day one at Bikram Yoga Teacher Training Spring 2009...
So here I am in Palm Desert. This place feels strangely familiar even though it's my first visit. I somehow know my way around town after being here for less than a day. When I walked into the lobby of our resort, I experienced a euphoric tingling sensation on the top of my head. The girls and I stood in awe over the river and gondola rides that lead from the lobby to the outside lakes and pools. Gorgeous! So grateful to be spoiled rotten and living in luxury during this torturous retreat.
Orientation was exciting. I insisted that our group sit in the front row. Rajashree introduced herself and the staff while gently reminding us to trust the process. Rid ourselves of expectations. Ask questions later. Enjoy the present moment.
It all comes full circle. Last summer when I got my tarot cards read by a trusted psychic, I told her a little bit about my new found passion for yoga. She shuffled the cards, nodding and replying to my comment with "oh yes, the one with the hummingbird."
Stunned silence.
"Yes, actually," I stated.
At the time, the studio whose classes I attended had a hummingbird as their logo. (No other studio in Las Vegas uses the hummingbird.) That studio closed in August, which broke my heart because it was my home studio. The first and only place I had practiced up to that point.
Since then I haven't thought much about Heather's intuitive remark about the yoga. That is, until today. Walking to my car after checking into the hotel, I pass by a rose garden displaying a gigantic sign talking about the animal that perfectly represents the vibration of life. Desert Springs JW Marriot's logo is the hummingbird.
