The problem with Livejournal is this: We all think we are so close but really we don't know much about each other ( Read more... )

aww, what a compliment ♥
nah, never been to an English-speaking country at all :D idk, my "beloved" linguistics university had really made me believe in studying on your own. oh and the last drop was hearing Arshavin's very first interview in Arsenal, prior to which he had been learning English for a couple of years with a private teacher XDDD dunno, i´ve always loved e.g. translating songs (whenever dad tells me that in some years i won't care about half the teams i now passionately follow i reply that language knowledge gained from watching football in foreign languages will stay, and that i'm still grateful to britney spears for what i've learned from her songs - and i really am! XD), and when i started using the internet i fairly soon understood that there's a lot more info in the english segment of it. i made a few sites about some finnish bands btw, and translated a lot of stuff for them, guess it's also helped (:
oh and studying at an english-heavy school and then at the lycee that belongs to this uni has been of use as well... unlike the uni itself XD

as for slang specifically though, i don't really consider myself particularly good at it.i know mostly stuff that is in "official" paperback dictionaries - ie not in online ones like urban dictionary :D

atm i think, the best way for me to improve my english is writing ;) my best friend is google during it - i seek for examples a lot whenever i'm not sure about the correct usage, and is really surprising how much "usual" stuff i learn this way ;D lololol just realized that's why e.g. Roma and Arshavin don't speak good english - they don't write about themselves! XDDDDDD

hope this can be of at least some use e.g. for your german studies :) do you follow bundesliga btw? :D perhaps it was a temporary thing, but although i generally find german a beautiful language, when i tried watching a match a few weeks ago it suddenly felt like overload -_- uni has started since though, and last saturday i watched hamburg-bayern without any such feelings (yay for mladen's goal btw! ♥) not sure whether it has to do with the quality of the matches/streams..

oh and have you tried reading the epic "regensommer"? :D i'm constantly putting it off.. :/
