On Saturday I was in Karlsruhe for a choir-workshop. It was my first workshop and I didn't really like it. It was a long trip (1,5-2 hours per direction) and it was the beginning of the Dutch school holidays, but the roads were surprisingly free and I arrived about an hour too early.
The location was nice. An old wooden house with a large tree inside. And the music was fine, too. "The Shadow of your Smile" written especially for the workshop.
But then there were about 60 people instead of the intended 35 and more than half of them just came and didn't have to pay any fees. Which made me feel a little bit stupid - like I was taken for a fool.
Then we rehearsed from 2 to 6pm with two breaks of about 5-10 minutes each. And the temperature was about 40°C and we were in a room that was obviously designed for 35 people and not for 60.
It was all fine. I liked the song, but it took all those 4 hours just to get the tunes. There was no fine tuning or anything. And at the end my brain was dead. The last lecture was about Jazz rhythms and really interesting, but I couldn't take anything with me, because I was just too dead in my head.

There would be a concert afterwards. And we would sing there.
Our part was due at about 10:30pm.
The rehearsal was over at 6. They told us to come back at 6:30 (after we had had lunch (in a town which most of us didn't know and where noone told us how to get into the center or to a restaurant or at least a supermarket...))
Then, at 6:30 there would be another 30-minutes rehearsal and then we should sit in the concert hall and reserve our places in the audience. Sit there, from 7 to 9, when the concert would begin, sit there for another 1,5 hours and then, finally, sing our song.
And no, there is no other way to reserve those stupid seats until the concert starts.

I felt even more fooled and decided to leave.
So I have no idea how everything went, but since I am rather quick with getting into new literature and most of the others had even more problems than me, I guess, I didn't miss too much. :-/

Sunday was more relaxing: I spent most of the day painting and in the evening I went for a walk with Silvio and for some icecream. :o)

weekend, singing
