Welcome, 2006. I don't believe I've ever been quite so happy to see a new year arrive.
What shall I attempt to do in this fresh slate of time? A few resolutions did come to mind while I watched that glowing ball drop in front of thousands of people a few seconds ago...
1. Fill a portfolio with poetry
2. Own a complete set of Oscar Wilde's works, as well as Diane Ackerman's 'Natural History' series
3. Build up a basic library of opera recordings, starting with the "Essential Twenty" listed in
The New York Times Essential Library Opera4. Write a manifesto on art and its relation to life
5. Complete a novel.
6. Collect together a series of short stories
7. Take up one entirely new and as of yet unthought of hobby
8. Dance under the stars, in the pouring rain, to an orchestra of thunder and lightening. Preferably with someone, although I would not mind being ecstatic within myself
9. Learn more about all beautiful things
10. And for my last resolution... meet an ideal mentor in the arts, preferably someone female and older... actually, I would love to visit
Josephine Wall in her English cottage, but I will reserve that yearning even now
