Beautiful Things

O pure of heart! thou need'st not ask of me
What this strong music in the soul may be!
What, and wherein it doth exist,
This light, this glory, this fair luminious mist,
This beautiful and beauty-making power.

Yesterday I found an elegant little book in the new section of the library: The New York Times Essential Library Opera. Today I was able to listen to some opera music... thank you Pandora.

I'm pleasantly surprised at my reaction to the music. Thinking I wouldn't understand it because of the language differences, or that it would be frustrating... and then to have my expectations turned completely around from the moment the music starts.

Oh, and guess what the best thing about all this is? That immediately after listening to Handel's "Messiah" and "Adeste Fideles", I can put in a copy of Poison's "Best Thing You Ever Had" and Zevon's "Werewolves of London" and completely rock out.
