A/N: Honestly I don’t even know if this one makes sense but then again Temperance’s head was probably not making much sense after that scene either ;)
“But I gotta move on, I gotta find someone who’s, who’s gonna love me 30 years, forty years, 50…”
“I know.”
She used a dictionary, propped up against her raised knees, to help her write in bed. A single sheet of paper to be filled with all the words she could never speak out loud starred up at her. This was the only way she could tell him. She needed to tell him how she was scared, that she wanted to love him, not for thirty, forty or ever fifty years, she just wanted to start with one day. Move slowly. She didn’t like restrictions or roads already planned. She wanted to take his hand, look into his eyes, smile and walk with him no matter where life took them.
But the truth was, she wasn’t a gambler. She was a scientist. Love was not what she needed or even something that would help her. Love was an obstacle she would have to spend the next thirty, forty, fifty years dodging and learning how to work around.
Putting the pen against the paper she paused before raising it again and taking it between her lips. She wished there was a word or a sentence that could combine all her feelings, all her fears, but if there was one she couldn’t find it. Temperance sighed and starred at what she had written over the past three hours. Giving up she turned, pushing the book and paper onto the floor and as she turned onto her stomach the pen slipped out of her hand. Watching it fall her eyes landed on the letter, the three words mocked her and she forced her eyes closed before turning her head into the pillow.
She couldn’t love him - yet she did. Tonight she would let herself feel it but in the morning she would go into work and be his friend. All these feelings would be pushed together and trapped deep inside of her where she would never let them out. It would hurt her to watch him move on without her but she would smile and pretend she was not falling apart inside. Because love was uncertain and when push came to shove, she was a scientist, not a gambler.
