@ desperatecases. ( 15, human, lost cause ) the only son of Monica and Joseph Wharton, Jude is a fifteen year old misanthrope -- the biggest loser in the sleepy town of Caribou, Maine. his father, a traveling salesman, spends more time on the road than he other does at home and as a result Jude's grown up under the inattentive watch of his chain-smoking, alcoholic mother. more often than not it's Jude who's looking after Monica, having to retrieve her from making a scene at the local grocery store or playing intermediary between her and his teachers on parents' night. by now, Jude's used to having his family by the town's cautionary tale, is accustomed to kids talking trash about his mom (it's true about 75% of the time anyway), and has given up on making an effort when it comes to dealing with other people. the only exceptions are his best friend, Lucy -- as disaffected as he is, but hardnosed, stubborn and defiant where Jude is definitely not -- and his little sister Nessie, whom Jude has been forced to raise mostly on his own (though not very well). the icing on the cake of pathetic that Jude likes to consider his life, is his infatuation with his classmate, Sebastian. well-off, polite, optimistic and captain of the lacrosse team, Sebastian is everything Jude's not (and isn't really sure he ever wants to be). what Sebastian's doing being the foundation to Jude's quickly emerging sexuality, Jude has no idea, but he thinks it's pretty lame.

( 15, human, social deviant ) the older of the Apple twins, Lucy decided to forgo the awkward stage of adolescence and instead bask in the glory of her own version middle-child syndrome by periodically finding a new counterculture lifestyle to adopt. having known Jude since they were both in preschool, Lucy is the lost cause's best friend and spends most of her time trying to snap Jude out of the downward shame spiral that is his life. "Get your shit together, Jude," is her motto of the day and given her unapologetic nature there isn't much that Lucy wouldn't call Jude out on in a second. obsessed with the social deviant, Lucy bends over backwards to not-adhere, a philosophy that seems to go well with Jude's general misathropy, though she doesn't subscribe to it. it's Lucy's biggest hope that one day, Jude will utimately get his shit together and allow himself to either be happy or move on; she helps take care of Jude's mother with him whenever he gets too trashed. has a habit of making running commentary on the state of Jude's sad dog expression whenever Sebastian's in a five mile radius. she spends her spare time trying to organize shows at the local Elks club, headlining her cover band which specializes in taking christian rock band songs and making them as profane as possible.

@ tryzone - played by riko. ( 17, human, rugby captain ) the eldest son and great hope of the West family, Sebastian grew up with every advantage his parents could find to offer him and subsequently had a lot of expectations dumped on his shoulders. his parents dreams of sports scholarships and law school and maybe one day a career in politics, where his easy friendliness and tv-ready good looks will come in handy, are all too clear to Sebastian. he's just never gotten around to mentioning that maybe that's not what he's interested in. popular, captain of the rugby team, with an amazing girlfriend and a bright future, sebastian feels a little guilty every time he considers messing with what's got to be a perfect life. then he meets jude, and sebastian can't quite say what, but something changes. now he's on a mission to be this kid's friend, no matter what jude's opinion on the matter is.
