Today was pretty light. I cut all three of my classes to finish painting lines on the basketball court. It was a long, hot process but student volunteers definitely made it easier. We ran out of paint after the last line. How's that for timing? Apparently I'm also skipping class tomorrow to chaperone a field trip for sixth graders (the ones who behave). So I guess that makes me flaky (though I think I've earned enough attendance karma to make it work). It's funny though, all of my students were suddenly "Can I go with you?" (No, you have to go to class) and "Where were you?". WHY CAN'T YOU PAY ATTENTION LIKE THAT WHEN I'M IN CLASS??? Oh and I caught one of my sixth graders cutting class and made them walk back to class, excuses and all. Definitely one of the highlights of my day.

This last week/weekend was crazy. We spent most of our time preparing for our legacy project this Saturday. Including staying at the office until midnight on Friday, having a quick Schmirnoff with a friend/co-worker/slave to the legacy project to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (which we totally missed) and then passing out in bed. Woke up with contacts still in and dragged myself to work.

The project itself went fine. We had quite a few volunteers show up and the students all seemed to enjoy themselves. Definitely chaotic, added to the fact that every time I tried to do something to the basketball courts, it rained. Eh.

Spent Sunday at Jazz Fest. SO MANY PEOPLE. My goodness. Lots of good food as well. I've decided that I'm rather fond of snowballs (The equivalent of shaved ice down here) - ice cream flavor with condensed milk is a good thing. I got to see Paul Simon play, which was awesome. He played a lot of Simon and Garfunkel stuff, got some other artists involved. Generally cool, though I'll NEVER FORGIVE HIM for not playing "The Obvious Child". We definitely got caught in a rainstorm which was crazy, but fun (and kind of refreshing, though my friends were worried that we'd smell like wet dog on the way home). We did manage to totally confuse a drive-thru clerk and stop by a drive-thru daquiri stand (what they don't do in Louisiana these days...)

Spent today having dinner at IHOP and just chilling. I am very full right now. Mmm...full...

And yeah, now I'm in the process of reading packing lists and preparing a flight back to California from the 27th through the 30th of May.
