A Day in the Life

Jul 23, 2004 01:31

What's the best way to start the day? Thunder baby! BANG BOOM CRACK!
Storms at five in the morning are nice, but of course they hurt the old sleep schedule.
So I'm still dreaming when the phone rings.
"Hello? Hey Shawn, what's the haps? Library? Damn yea! See you in an hour."

Some time later we are cruising down Central Parkway with SM and the Jicks singing their sweet songs. Do not feed the oyster? I wouldn't dream of it, Steve.
As the towers crowd around us, I execute my ninja parking move and off to the library we go.

Navigating the rows of Y.A./Fiction can be a challenge for even the most avid reader, and with that in mind, I soon enlisted the help of a desk jockey.

Me:"Yea...I need this book "Musashi". I forget the author's name...anyway I couldn't find it in the fiction over there..."
Frasier Crane:"Well that makes sense. The books are arranged by author, so it's hard to find a book if you don't know that piece of information."
Me:"LOL. Look, it's some Japanese name starting with a Y, and I didn't find any of those. Wait, I think it's 'Yoshikawa'."
Frasier Crane:*click* *tap* *tap* *click* "Yes, it is 'Yoshikawa'. That wouldn't be out on the shelves...You see the Cincinnati Main Library has a xenophobic policy."
Me:*rolleyes*
Frasier Crane:"Let me send a slave girl to the stacks."

So, short story long, I get my crazy Japanese samurai adventure and we head home.

A short while later, as I lay on my bed reading the forward, which was mostly designed to insult the fuck out of its competition, "Shogun", I get a phone call asking me to take my grandma to Krogers. Fuck?

It wasn't really too bad. On the to and fro trip I got to headbang to the Minutemen. Fight the toadies? Whatever you say man.
She even payed to fill my gas tank and bought me some tortellinis. What a standup gal.

The night continued the tradition of total awesomeness. I pilgrimaged to Brooker's for Chinese and Office space. Later we played Egyptian Ratscrew and Spit, ending the second game in a draw because it took so damn long. Seriously, has anyone ever finished a game of Spit?

On the drive home, Kristin Hersh and the Throwing Muses sang me to sleep. You're a freeloader? Me too, baby. Me too.
What a great freaking day. I hope yours was equally amazing.
