This morning I was watching the Today show. They were having an interview with a representative of a company in Michigan called Weyco. They have put in place a rule that affects anyone who smokes cigarettes. What got under my collar was the fact that they can fire you for smoking at home, on vacation, anywhere. WHAT!!! Are we living in a land where personal freedoms are being trampled upon. They are using the argument that they are trying to encourage healthy living, and cut down health care costs. Okay, what about the overweight folks, and women who have children, the extreme sports enthusiasts, those who consume alcohol, or any other types of so called unhealthy activities. All of those activities can effect health and health care costs. Where are they going to draw the line. The company says it's a way to encourage. Encourage!!!! They are taking peoples livelihoods away by firing them for something that they should have no control over outside of the workplace. I found a article from the Detroit news. I can't find a link on the Today's show site.

I also know that while at work, a company has certain rights to control your activities on their facility, maybe even on business trips when you are on the clock. But the line has to be drawn when you clock out and go home. Your personal life should not be regulated once you walk out that door.
