It's been a while since I really played in the kitchen. Most of the time it's just cooking for the sake of having somehing relatively healthy to eat. The past couple of weeks though I've both seen and smelled some really good strawberries at the store when I've been shopping. One of my rules about fruit is that I generally don't buy it unless I can smell it before I see it. This applies mostly to berries and melons, but it works for me. Anyway, I bought two pounds of strawberries last night, knowing I'd have to share some with my nephew, Dylan. I was right. When I got home Dylan spotted the strawberries and really, really had to have some. So, with the exception of the 4 or 5 that were a little iffy looking, and the one I ate (he was a bit upset at sharing even that one) he ate the whole carton of strawberies. The kid's a fruit fiend, but I guess that's better than junk food.
Anyway, today I have made candied lemon peels, some of them have been dipped in chocolate. And the other carton of strawberries I bought has been dipped in chocolate as well, while Dylan was napping so he couldn't object to the chocolatification of the strawberries. (like how I make words up?) Super easy stuff, but so yummy.
I'm thinking of making lemon bars with the jiuce I got from the lemons I peeled. I may also just make some lemonade.
One thing I'm not sure what to do with though, is the lemon flavored simple syrup left over from candying the lemon peels. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. .... Ummm scratch that last part. There's nothing syrupy about it. It's more like a bright yellow lemon flavored block in a container meant for pouring.
Oh, and last night I made some super yummy guacamole. Mmmm... I love the green stuff.
