I had a lot of fun yesterday going to the Renaisance Festival with Josette. It was a first for me.
After we got there and had our picnic lunch, the fun began. We started out with a little bit of shopping. We wanted to visit with a friend of ours before we went off to watch the first show on our list, Rogues and Rascals (I think, I could have the name of it wrong, but it had Rogues in it). They were fun to watch. I couldn't participate in the audience participation as much as I would have liked to since talking too much just makes me cough more, even though I am feeling better than I was before. Anyway...
Next on the list of shows we saw was The Zucchini Brothers. What a fun juggling act. Definitely worth seeing, and if I'd had enough money with me I would have bought one of their DVDs. They have apparently been over to Iraq 4 times so far with the USO, and $5 from every DVD bought goes toward funding for the USO and their trips over to entertain the troops. Of course, I also love the fact that the one guy was wearing tights. There just aren't enough men out there willing to wear tights. You get a few more that are willing to wear kilts, but still not enough. ...... Hint, hint guys. Kilts and tights.... wear more please.
After that show, we walked around for a bit and did some shopping, or at least looking at what could be shopped for. Some of it was way cool. I found a couple of places that were selling puzzle rings. I got business cards and made sure the size I thought I needed was indeed the size I do need. Maybe when I have a little more money I'll get one. I also saw some really mice wood working stuff and leather pretties. Fortunately for me though, I know people who make this kind of thing so I can get exactly what I want instead of close enough, and feel good about giving my friends a sale instead of a perfect stranger. Yay for having friends with super cool skills!
Oh, and while we were walking around we got a lot of people asking us if we were in the SCA. And several times I overheard someone say they wanted clothes like ours. It was cool. I know I'm not at a level yet that anyone in the SCA is going to say that about my garb or my sewing, but it was cool and felt good to have it admired by people who didn't know I'm not the most skilled seamstress out there.
After walking around for a bit, we decided to catch another couple of shows. The first of those two was Bocca Musica. This was a fun show. So much fun, in fact, that my face hurt from laughing so much. If I go again next year, I will have to make sure I see them again.
The next and last show we saw was the guy with the raptors. We'd walked past and seen part of his falcon show. That was cool. I love the big birds of prey. I would have loved to stay and watch the whole show for the falcons, but I had had enough of sitting and I got to see them in flight for a few minutes, which is what I would have been most excied to see anyway. Anyway, the show we did see, or at least see most of, was the owl show. He had a great horned owl and with the exception of when it was in flight, the furthest I was away from it was about 6 feet. While the guy giving the demonstration was talking to us and giving us the educational part of the show, the owl was "talking" just as much. Somehow, I didn't expect that many different noises to come out of an owl. When the guy finally let the owl fly it was pretty awesome. You didn't hear the wings flap at all, but you sure could feel the air move when he flew over you, or just near you. What a cool bird.
After that, we worked our way back to my car since the festival was closing for the night.
After a bit of talking and driving, we finally made it back to Josette's. And after changing my clothes I had another good laugh thanks to Tara. I had taken the blanket I have recently finished with me to show to Josette. I didn't want to put it in the trunk of my car to get leaves and crap all over it, so I left it at her place while we were out so we could have room for the stuff we took with us in the car. When we got back, there were two small paw sized areas in the blanket that were not nearly as fluffy as the rest of the blanket. Neither if us had seen the cat all day, but we knew she was there because she had done the happy cat thing of knitting/kneeding on my blanket. Josette thought is was cute too, but she should since it's her kitty.
After that it was pretty much go home and go to bed. It was a long and fun day. I'll have to make suer I do that again.
