Accomplished more today in terms of ADF work: emailed preceptor to be matched with a mentor (I do not like solitary work and the mentoring system in esoteric practices- as I well know- works well). I hope to be paired with a mentor who will assign a bit of work but also be aware of my work schedule, and who won’t mind whapping me upside the noggin with ‘ye olde clue by four’ as needed.
I introduced myself on the ADF-DEDICANTS mailing list and promptly mucked it up; made an unfortunate but very funny typo. (Yes, an even funnier boo-boo than the constant “brian-brain” errors, or yelling “fanny” in public. ;-) At least I crack myself up. (Or am I too easily amused? But I think it is a good sign that I am starting to get back to my usual giggly, easily laughing-self. I’ve missed that part of me over the past few years.)
I’ve started my notes on the First Oath and have put down some ideas on how to go about doing it. I may do this as soon as Tuesday night, I’d like to be able to get into the work with the Lammas (or as ADF calls it, Lughnasadh) observations with a minimum of work outstanding.
Have started my notes on the nine qualities complete with definitions “by the book” in this case the Oxford English Dictionary and notes off the cuff on what I understand these terms to mean. Most of the qualities the ADF espouses are qualities that I hold dear and that are also mirrored in ancient Greek society- I think my Gods will be happy with that.
Did a bunch more reading on ADF subjects in general, and started my application letters for the Seer’s Guild and the Naturalist’s Guilds- as a provisional member only at this time, in both- too much on my plate right now and they will likely want someone who has at least completed the DP. But my statements of interest will soon be registered. (Seer’s Guild is a given, as are Liturgists, Magicians, Artisans, and Scholars guilds; the Naturalists Guild appeals mainly due to my wildlife work. I’m not a rampant nature fanatic or “earth worshipper” or “nature worshipper”, but I do feel we have a duty- regardless of spiritual or political affiliations- to take care of this planet. Until we get our heads out of our collective arse and get in gear with space exploration, this is all we’ve got and it won’t do to fuck it up. Grrr… don’t get me started on my annoyance with the lack of work in the space program, that is one of my hot buttons.)
Now I am off to watch Erin Brockovich and stitch a bit more on the Poseidon panel. Tonight I am starting on the light greys… I think, although I am considering doing some of the black stitching as there is just so much of it to do. I do have that tree panel I need to finish so I can send them off to get the new throw pillows made, and I should also finish up the seahorse soon, not much left to do with it. I still need to paint the fabric for the seascape window panel, but I won’t do that ‘til later in the week.
