Neji felt Hinata behind him, lingering just outside his open doorway as he checked his inventory.
“To what do I owe this honor?”
Hinata gave a small whimper at being discovered, thrust out her hand and studied the ground. Neji considered his cousin quizzically and gingerly accepted the jar of healing balm from her open palm. “Arigatou, Hinata-sama.” She pulled her arm back close to her body.
“Ano, you…you and Naruto going to be away long?” she asks softly.
“It’s hard to say.” Neji tucks the balm in his pack.
“Oh.” Pigeon-toed, she sways a little in place, tapping her index fingers together. Neji watches her and allows himself to relax a little in formality.
“You should go say goodbye.”
Hinata gives him a small smile and turns to leave. A few steps down the hallway, a trot, a run. No, she thinks as she hurries down the hall, I’ll wish him good fortune.
