[TRC] Before It Explodes Again

While chapter 154 is downloading, I just thought I'd download some of my own thoughts before CLAMP melts my brain again. We are, after all, finally in Celes.

A killing curse, a second curse (that may or may not be cast just on Fai), the splash narrator alluding to possible collusion between FWR and Ashura-ou, Ashura-ou's first incarnation in RG Veda. What to think, what to think.

I seriously have NO idea.

But it does seem that Syaoran continues to be disappointed in Fai (now for lies that he didn't catch; see ch153). And an unresolved issue is why Fai would hide the extent of his powers (not just refuse to use it). In light of the fact that Fai used his magic now several times in ch153 without any ill-effects (so much for the I-won't-use-magic-because-I-can't-control-it theory), my guess is that he didn't want any additional pressure to use magic in a bad way. Perhaps he's afraid knowledge of what's possible will corrupt (like the One Ring!). We have it, let's use it - even if the intent is good, perhaps Fai had experienced an outcome that ended badly.

It's not like I have it in for the boy, but I have an awful feeling that he's the one without the happy ending. He seems like the type that realizes what he's got too late. It's so much more powerful that way. Watch out for edits after I read the first of the Celes arc. Here I go!
Edited after reading:

What's Twinny doing there!? More importantly WHAT is Twinny?

Fai's twin is most decidedly be dead. That was the stipulation, his life for yours and Fai is responsible for it. Unless...of course...the phrase isn't suppose to be interpreted as a death for a life, but more like a certain type of life over another. GAH! Curse you CLAMP! The other explanation is the child is also Fai - Fai split into two without the Fai as we know him realizing it (or maybe he does). Or yet another idea is that Fai's seeing a 'memory' or spirit (that kid was definitely not under Ashura-ou's cloak the whole time...but then again, the whole place is magic.

So Fai's trying to avoid fulfilling a promise? Maybe the second curse is that he is bound by it.

Anyway. I'm happy to see R!Shao coming more to the forefront. Though he was featured in Infinity quite a bit, it always felt like him taking a back seat role to Sakura's storyline. I like jaded, suffering Shao, but then, I like my bishonen jaded and suffering in general. Here, we see him magic the gang in lieu of Fai despite his reservations of the mage - recognizing that it's harmful to Fai (Physically? Mentally? Emotionally?) to keep using magic. And he's definitely being affected by some sort of magical pressure in the castle. Whether it's the castle or someone or something remains to be seen.
