I could get into a long rambling post about how I feel about the government giving control of 6 East Coast ports to the UAE, but I'll try to keep it short and as concise as possible

yea i don't know what to think about that. These guys already control most of the ports around the world, and with globalization in our face, it does make sense to go with them. If we don't we have to shut down our ports before we can find another company to take it over..if there is even one that exists that can handle that kind of volume we bring in and out every hour. The question here is whether our national security is worth the possibility of hindering our economy? And for how long until we can establish something useful for us to use again?
Also, it's not as if we are choosing them as our port controllers, they BOUGHT out our current one...however, many people are making it look like the Bush Administration chose this company, or as if the Bush Administration is at fault because they got bought out, which is all WRONG......that's business and it happens. The fact that they are ARAB is the only thing that's hindering people in the decision making process..we have no proof they are allied with terrorists..and we could have an american citizen on our ports right now who is allied with the terrorists with no affiliation with the Arab company....and granted, if we are going to get attacked, it would have happened already, or might still happen. Our Ports are not our only weakness. We are not having our current Port employees fired. The Arab business is only going to handle the operations of the port, which is already automated through their computer system anyway....they are not touching the security or the HR of the Ports.
I'm not saying we shouldn't do anything about it though...i just wish people would debate about it more and look at both sides. Instead of always being black or white..It's NEVER black and white. And with security comes penalties which could hurt us more in the long run...if we balled up and cut ourselves off from the world, ecnonomically we would destroy ourselves.
And while on this subject, fuck every body in San Francisco who didn't like the USS Pennsylvania on their costal port. It is a symbol of peace on our homeland, not a symbol of destruction. Yes it has big guns, but those guns are what give you the freedom to say you don't like it there...at least RESPECT it. It is here for our protection... if you don't like it, get out of our country.
sorry, i had to get that out somewhere lol. it really pissed me off...i wanted to go there and punch all of the people who were protesting the ship.
