Well, I just got back from the first Music Man rehearsal. And
from the looks of it, it's gonna be an awesome and really fun
play. All the people in it are amazingly talented, and I'm
looking forward to seeing the end result! With that aside, I
would like to rant and rave about the most AMAZING GILMORE GIRLS
EPISODE EVERRR from last night!!!! But, since I don't have the
time or the patience to write all my thoughts down, and I found this
AMAZING person who writes full analyses (plural of analysis) of the
episodes, and I happen to agree with EVERY SINGLE WORD (which is
strange... but I do, I agree fully and completely with every word) she
says, I will just post her review. Thank you, freecityy!
However, I will put it under a cut for you all who have no interest
whatsoever in Gilmore. But none of you get off the hook without a
wonderful pic from the episode! Hehe.
xoxoxoxo

P.S. (I'm just venting here, and it doesn't make any sense.
But
it's not supposed to, it's intentionally vague) This entire thing
is somewhat bigger and more encompassing than I thought it would
be. I went from kinda to almost to yes to definitely to unsure
again. Now it's split, but one is definitely more chanceable than
the other. Plus, one I actually take initiative with. And
the other is just so much out of my reach. What hasn't been for
almost 2 years comes rushing back, and now I
remember why I tried to keep it's grip off of me for so long... But
once the veil falls, I can't do anything to lift it... I suppose only
time can do that. All I can do is take my chances, and hope
things will go okay. It's something with the capability of being
great, but the likelihood (almost 100%) of being miserable. Blah,
what a drag.
Well, since I'm watching the ep (again...) as I'm recapping, here we go...
(IMPORTANT
= if you don't want to read the entire thing, just read about the last
scene, because I address many certain points that I think are VERY
important and will probably be very much appreciated ☺)
➟OPENING DINER SCENE. Luke
throwing people out of the diner, stomping around, slamming plates down
and yelling: loved it! Even though I'm sad that he's sad, I love that
he's so miserable without Lorelai (it only proves again that they can't survive without each other!).I loved when he kicks off the oven door. ☺ Then the Weston's rant... ahh, priceless.
I loved Lane trying to be all inconspicuous while warning people about Luke's rage! Warning Zach, because she "cares" ("His eyes. Red. Like the fires of Mordor"), and warning the ugly fat man, who was an ass back to her, so he deserved to be thrown out!
I was laughing at Kirk every time he'd make some suck up remark... "I'm
loving this Black and Cajun break Luke made for me"! "I've been mixing
this black ash with the runny eggs... which goes great with the fishy
tasting bacon." It was all great and hilarious and classic Kirkness.
➟DRAGONFLY's PHONE SCENE. I just loved how Lorelai showed absolutely no emotion to Emily's calls, didn't even blink or hesitate whatsoever, and just hung up. Then when Richard
called... she turns all sweet and asking about the trip, then when he
says that Emily would like to speak with her, she waits for Emily to
say something THEN hangs up so she can hear it. LOVED IT! Emily
completely deserves to be shut out of her life for what she did...
It was so sad how Sookie was giving Lorelai the "couch potato girl" speech. It just made me sad to think about how Lorelai really doesn't have anyone right now ☹.
And poor Sookie for trying so hard to take her out to cheer her up when
all she really wants is to wallow her man - the man - that got away
while watching Janet, Judy, and Barbara in A Star is Born. ☹, But I did laugh at "Remember, I don't put out unless you buy me dinner." Then Sookie, "I know I saw your bumper sticker." Ahhh, wonderful AS-P strikes again.
➟FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER. (Before I begin, one thing should be stated: I really have never liked Rory
since she's gone to Yale. She has just changed and has totally gotten
on my nerves and, well, I'll stop there.) BUT, Rory has totally
rekindled my love for her. I am so god dammed proud of her! Since the
moment she stepped into that house, and Emily just
threw herself all over her with her big hugs and huge smiles and
outrageous attempts to start conversations, Rory did the most amazing
job at ignoring and being short and rude--Seems like much of Lorelai's hatred for her mother DID rub off on her! (Well, duh.)
Then of course when Richard comes down and Rory
immediately hugs him and smiles and becomes completely interactive with
him. Every time Richard would try to get her to say something to Emily, she'd give her some monosyllabic answer, LOVED IT (I see some Luke
has rubbed off on her as well! No dirtiness intended for all you dirty
minded people... common now, that's just gross and wrong!). Wow, I was
just so proud of our girl!
I loved all of Rory's combacks to Emily during the real arguement at the dinner table, "HER NAME is Eliza... Well, kudos on the duck, Grandma!"
But it made me so mad to hear Emily talk about the "contract" Rory made
with them. It was almost sick to hear her talk like that... It made me
so mad. But Rory, the wonderfully strong girl she is, totally bit back
saying how she is to "come to dinner. Period. There is no agreement on how vivacious or bubbly" she has to be. AMAZING work.
➟RICHARD's CALL/POLICE TICKETING BOAT SCENE. I hated Richard calling Lorelai to tell her to have Rory apologize to Emily (yuck!). She in no way should apologize, she had every right to be angry. But then when Lorelai says "Rory loves Luke, Dad, she did not want to see him hurt and humiliated the way he was. She cares about me..." Did anyone else think this was actually Lorelai saying what she thinks through Rory?? I mean, I know Lorelai would say this because Rory does really feel that way, but it just seems like something AS-P would have Lorelai do because she does love him and doesn't want to see him hurt.
I did think it was sweet how Lorelai was asking Richard
for advice on her insurance. And when he came to the inn and they had
tea and talked it was very cute father daughter bonding that we almost
never ever see.
I was SOOOO MAD when Luke didn't see what Lorelai
did about the boat. I was laughing so hard though when she made up the
story about the kids and the charity and the kittens or something. It
was classic Lorelai randomness. And then when you see Luke RIGHT behind
her in the diner cleaning up... ahhh it's just so sad. ☹
➟LANE/ZACH DINNER SCENE. I'll keep this short: Hilarious. Oh wow, poor Lane and poor poor poor Zach. "Oh-well-I-have-to-wait-till-I-get-married. I have to wait till I get married..?" "I didn't know that." "Neither did I..." Ahh, if only Mama Kim
knew. Well, she would probably have a heart attack right after she sent
Lane to be exorcised. But she would probably be very proud that all her
(insane) demands were hammered into Lane's subconscious.
➟EMILY/LUKE DINER SCENE.
Loved everything. Loved Emily and Kirk interaction (wow that was
awkwardly hilarious!), loved Sarcastic!Emily ("I'll just wait here
until things... die down." and to Kirk "Well... you've painted a
wonderful picture."), loved Curious!Emily ("What is Mud Pie?"), loved
Determined!Emily ("Would you mind excusing us?" But more as a
demand...), loved all pre-Emily's before the real talk.
And the talk... I loved how Emily got right to the point. Of course coming to Luke's and giving in to it all must have been hard (just the preparation alone!) but to give away so much: "My
daughter and I aren't speaking. She won't take my calls, she won't come
to dinner. She apparently wants nothing to do with me." Wow. I was
very surprised. And you can even see Luke's reaction because he turns a
bit toward her and stops writing and noticeable listens.
When Emily says "Lorelai has her own ideas about what will make her happy. *pause* She wants you Luke.",
the look that Emily has on her face is very sincere and I actually have
sympathy for her (Well... kind of.) You can really tell that she means
it. Thank god she had this expression because I think that Luke really sees her emotion too, which really influenced him to, in the end, go back to Lorelai... And I know some people didn't exactly like when Emily says "You've won. Go back to her."...
but for some reason, I kind of did. It is very Emily to have it be
somewhat of a game or a contest, that's just her. But to say this to Luke, about Lorelai's love and happiness, truly means something. Then when she closes with, "I promise... I will stay out of it.", that just made everything final (in a good way) and wrapped it up nicely. And then of course, AS-P being the goddess that she is, classicaly puts a little Kirk humor in there from Emily that made me laugh after just having to deal with a tough scene.
Deep breath and, here comes... the big one.
(I will TRY to keep this brief.)
➟FINAL ("THE") SCENE. I'll start with the song. Judy Garland, perfect choice. The Man That Got Away, even better. The lyrics applied perfectly to Lorelai
and the entire situation. The song is beautiful and romantic and
terrible sad, but it was just perfect. Especially as it played stronger
as she walks to the door, then even more so as she opens it, and then
fades as they kiss and the scene closes.
When Lorelai opens the door, the look on Luke's
face is almost something I haven't seen on his face before. He looks
almost like a little boy about to cry... and NO that's not a bad thing.
But its a look filled with hope and desperation and determination. And
as he takes a few strong steps and completely takes Lorelai by surpise... wow. I loved how Lorelai
almost stumbled back, but he caught her. And WOW can you tell she's
kissing back. I loved the arms completely around each other, and I
loved Lorelai moving her so she could hold him around the waist, as Luke
so lovingly (and, totally romantically) rubbed her back. And then,
(music getting louder) she shuts the door, and you can even still see
them kissing through the frosted window. Wow. Amazing. Wow. I was
totally speechless when I saw this and my mouth was on the floor.
(Just
so it makes it easier, I'll just respond to some of the general
comments about this. If you just skimmed through the re cap because its
so rediculously long, or maybe painfully boring, which I hope is not
the case... but if you did that, PLEASE read this part. Because this is
the part that I only care about and truly makes good sense!)
➟Some people said they were angry that they didn't talk and that they just went to kissing, with no ILY's (I love you's). WRONG! Luke
has always been one to speak through his actions, and that kiss... The
vehemency of that kiss flat out shows that he is in love with her and
wants to be with her and there for her always and forever. And Lorelai's
immediate reciprocation said the exact same thing. And they BOTH
understood. Although I would have loved an ILY, we will get it. I
almost think that, after seeing the kiss, not even an ILY could have
topped that. Well, I'm sure it could (AS-P is just so damn talented!) but I was completely and totally enamored with that kiss. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
➟Also, many people have been talking about Lula's notes on the symbolism of Luke and Lorelai and door-frames/locks/keys... first, they shared their first kiss outside the door-frame for the Dragonfly (also the kiss in Luke's apartment's door-frame in "Tipp, Tay Too"). In the first few episodes this season, when Luke
would come over, he would be very hesitant about coming inside and
making sure it was okay first. Also, he was always finding her keys for
her (Lorelai doing the same for him) and constantly
making sure that she locks the doors and so on. **Remember back in
season one when Lorelai brings Max home in the snow
storm, but doesn't want to let him inside THE DOOR because she never
lets guys INSIDE THE DOOR. Well, after time in this season, as we see
first in "WBB", Luke lets himself in (which he
actually did before when they were just friends) but now that they are
seeing eachother, it means more.
But as we saw in the ep, Luke
FORCEFULLY (and quite significantly) takes two large steps ACROSS her
doorframe and they kiss inside for the first time (well I mean there
have been kisses in side, but you know what I mean). If AS-P
does mean all this as symbolism and have some huge double entendre for
us all, well she is simply and beautifully GENIUS! I can't wait for it
to be revealed, ever so subtley of course, or if it will ever be...
Sorry, but this episode was compltely worthy of the (almost) hour and thirty minutes I spent re-capping/analyzing. Hope you enjoyed it!
