So I've mentioned the amazing Ingrid a time or two recently. She's a new e-friend of Dan's, who I kinda sorta absolutely adore! ;) Well, I've been kind of jealous of Dan's relationship with Ingrid over the past few days...I want one like it. Which is why I went and did a really, truly, absolutely dumb thing. This is all Ingrid's fault. I blame her!!
Despite the fact that I am struggling to finish school and the fact that I've practically ignored the real life friends I have over the past couple of months...I placed a craigslist ad. Oh yes, dumb Cassandra. Someone frickin' shoot me.
I'm down to only 11 e-mails that I need to respond to in the first round (people I want to follow up with get a round two if they reply to my first reply to them). Some were easy. Especially the several men old enough to be my father who assured me they got along great with really young girls. So not okay! I want someone who is in my stage of life (which I specifically said in my ad)! If a man my parent's age is still in the "young adulthood, just starting out" stage of life...that's just wrong.
The next great category is the group of guys just looking for a "hookup." I sent them (well, most of them) polite "thank you but did you read my ad I'm not looking for casual sex" responses.
Then there's the group that sent one line responses or just pictures, asking if certain things were okay with me. The majority of them got weeded out for stupidity/not really reading my ad/etc.
Then there're the guys who just aren't what I want. For the most part this is because they butcher the English language. In an era that includes readily available spell checkers and unlimited words for e-mails, things like "here is my pic..love to see all of your nice body..I am 5 11 190 clean d & d free,..self employed prof ..when is your free time? can u send a pic?" (also falling into the 'hookup ad' category) just make me shudder.
So now I'm down to the heart of the good responses. Two of them I've met from previous Craigslist posts, which is amusing to me and likely will be to them. A couple seem really awesome. A few just want to be friends (one of the purposes of my ad), and this group includes ALL of the women who chose to respond. It's not a sexist thing, it's just that all of the responses from girls were serious, honest, interesting, and well-written. I think the reasons behind this are fairly well detailed in one of
Matisse's control tower columns.
All in all, I'm focusing more on getting my essay done. I've already stayed up all night and will likely miss the last day of classes. BAD CASS! Just one more week and I think this quarter will finally come to a close. Then it's on to another several months of torture!
