I know it's supposed to be Wednesdays that we do this, but I'm rarely on here on weeknights, so I decided to do it while I'm thinking of it.
Reading
- A gorgeous short story by
ljgeoff - The Fifth Season, N. K. Jemisin-beautiful so far
- Not much else
Watching
- Finished Stranger Things. Liked it, but not as much as many of my friends did. I got a kick out of the similarity between the first scene and the one in E.T. There were moments that annoyed me, but for the most part, I thought it was good. Oh, and I thought Winona Ryder was wonderful in it, and I'm not a huge fan of her work in general.
- Re-watching Columbo, which we do probably once a year or so
- We were interrupted in our viewing of the old Wonder Woman TV series by defective discs. The replacements have arrived. Also, mom bought us the first season of Smallville. We'll probably do one or the other when we're done with Columbo.
- We've watched the first episode of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I like it so far; reserving judgment, but so far so good. I also find the Yorkshire accent to be really beautiful.
- TONS of YouTube cooking shows. I took a list of all the countries in the world, and I'm creating a playlist of cooking videos from those countries' food traditions, preferably by native residents of those countries. The kid and I are going to start cooking some of them on our Sunday cooking dates. (Today, we cooked korokke because she loves them, but she wants to branch out, and that's my jam exactly, so yay!)
- Loving "The Get Down," even though it makes me tense because of the kids-in-peril aspect.
- We watched a few episodes of Penny Dreadful, but found it too bleak to overcome even our genuine fascination with the League-of-Extraordinary-Gentlemen-knockoff aspects.
- To the Ends of the Earth is starting off slowly. I'll give it a little longer.
- Watching Hello Dolly and Carmen Jones because I'm on a musicals kick and that's what's on Netflix at the moment.
- Had to stop watching Orange Is The New Black before it ended. Someone on Twitter spoiled a plot twist. I don't mind spoilers in general, but this involved something terrible happening that is upsetting to me, and the closer the event got, the worse I felt, so I just stopped and read the synopsis instead.
- I found Grease Live nearly unwatchably bad, but I watched it anyway. The 1978 movie is one of my problematic faves, and I watched it 49 times in my youth. If they were going to remake it (badly) they could at least have removed the rapey parts.
- Found the first half-hour or so of Tallulah annoying, but will probably return to it, because Ellen Page and Allison Janney!
Playing
- Habitica
- Two Dots
- The companion game for Two Dots, Dots & Co.
- Duolingo -- does that count as a game? I'm learning Spanish and Dutch there. I'm finding Dutch spelling to be SO DIFFICULT because it follows different rules from every other language I read/speak.
Listening
Mostly Hamilton, but also other musicals (In The Heights, Waitress, etc.) and a little bit of other music. Formation is wonderful, and I play it sometimes just to feel happy. Her show at the VMAs was incredible.
Heading off to catch up on everyone's posts, including last Wednesday's.
