So, while visiting with my oldest sister, her husband, and their wonderful baby boy, we went to a used book store. Doesn't sound too extraordinary, does it? Except, when I rounded the corner of one shelf, I saw IT. Yes folks, Strangers in Paradise was staring me down from it's sticking-out spot on the top shelf.
The book was a treasury, an overview of all the series to date of publishing with extra tidbits and the unpublished first issue. Even better? It was $8! Laura was one happy girl. So, after toting it around the entire store for the duration of our trip, and making the excuse of needing to grab Leaves of Grass so I could pay last and my mom wouldn't see the front cover, Laura got Strangers in Paradise. Granted, it's not the amazing Omnibus that I wanted and K suggested I get, but it was amazing.
I'm about halfway through it now, and it's proven a valuable resource for my current writing project. I mentioned the project
back a couple entries and am working on it now that it's summer. Sadly, after an update to Linux gone wrong, Open Office, a free Microsoft Word alternative, has quit working and everything had to be converted to txt form and working on in WordPad. Meaning all those nice features like word count and pages are gone. But, I don't mind as long as I still have the ability to write.
/Supa is going strong. My only problem seems to be writing down what I think out. The current scene I'm working on drove every tension between Nicole, the main character, and Neil, her ex-boyfriend and ex-sidekick from high school, to a head after such a scene being in the works for almost ten years. It also looks at the fact that now they're "grown-ups", whatever that means, and have to deal with their past as such. In other words, getting into a fight while drinking wine. Makes for fun times. Especially when Nicole walks in her parents house to find Neil's ex-girlfriend with her brother. Also, Neil drugged her, making it as if she had more than two drinks. Good times. So, Laura's happy. Summer's going well. Other stuff, i.e. my parents, not so much, but all well. Moving on. =)
